This short film, called A Trip to Paradise, chronicles the poignant events when things go wrong in the chaotic life of an underprivileged lad, and was written; directed and acted by young people whose lives might have mirrored this if they hadn’t had opportunities to take part in positive activities such as this project run by St Mary’s Path Estate Tenants Association.
Organised by St Mary’s Path Tenants Association, the project was designed to teach film-making skills to young people on the estate. In fact, it has been life changing. At least two have now started working towards a career in the film industry. The film has also been distributed by Islington Voluntary action Islington, and the Police have asked to use the film as part of their drug awareness campaign in local schools.
“We are so grateful to all the agencies that have made this event possible for our young people” says Jennie Rooney, chair of SMPETA.
“What better honour and reward for the young people who have worked so hard on this film than to see it showcased to all their families and friends on such a glamorous big screen. This just goes to show what can be achieved by businesses engaging with local community projects.”
We are looking at doing similar projects. Please contact your Neighbourhood Services Officer if you are interested in film making with ISHA.
