Celebrating Living Wage Week

Living Wage employer graphic

Living Wage Week is the annual celebration of the Living Wage movement and takes place from Monday 15 November to Sunday 21 November.

The Living Wage campaign is an independent movement of businesses, organisations and people who believe a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. Employers choose to pay the real Living Wage on a voluntary basis - it provides an ethical benchmark for responsible pay.

20 years of the Living Wage

This year is extra special as it's a celebration of 20 years of the campaign. Back then, the idea of a Living Wage was first born at a Citizens UK meeting in a church hall in East London. Today there are over 8,000 employers who pay the Living Wage.

ISHA is proud to be the first housing association in Islington to pay London Living Wage. All our contractors pay London Living Wage to their employees - it's a condition of their contract with us.

What is the Living Wage?

From today, the updated Living Wage rate is £9.90 an hour.

The real Living Wage is separate from the legal minimum national wage of £8.91 (for adults 23 and over). It's independently calculated based on living costs and in London, it is paid at a higher rate of £11.05 because of the higher living costs associated with the capital.
