Her game too – ISHA's commitment to girls' football

This International Women's Day we're proud to celebrate ISHA's sponsorship of the Islington District Girls Football Under 11s and Under 12s. Islington District Girls Football – which selects all the best girls from the borough to play at a higher level against other districts – had been facing a sponsorship shortfall for the rest of the season. After learning about the team’s financial challenges in December last year ISHA stepped in to provide crucial support. ISHA pledged £2,500 to cover the girl’s essential expenses, including coaching staff costs and new kits for the players, ensuring that the girls can continue to participate in the season. Islington District Girls Football spokesperson, Ellen Maggs, recently gave us some good news. “We have 4 lines up for both teams between now and May! So far the money has paid for kit for every player and training every Thursday. Our year 6 girls will have their 1st match on the 16th and the year 7’s will be the week after!” ISHA CEO Ruth Davison and Islington District Girls Football spokesperson Ellen Maggs Back in December, Ellen thanked ISHA for its sponsorship, saying it allowed them to fund 32 local girls and continue building girls football in Islington. “After 20 years of being dormant, our girls‘ district teams came back last season, clinching two out of three cup wins, only missing out on the third,” she said. “We wanted to keep growing and developing the team by adding new age groups, like other boroughs do. "But we didn't have the money for kits and coaching this season to give Islington girls a chance at pro football. ISHA's sponsorship is a lifeline, and we're incredibly grateful." ISHA's Chief Executive Ruth Davison expressed her admiration for the club's dedication to fostering young talent in the local area and conveyed her best wishes to the team for the remainder of the season. Ruth said: “We understand the importance of initiatives like the Islington District Girls Football Club in nurturing young talent, promoting fitness, and building self-confidence in young girls. “We’re excited to collaborate closely with the Islington District Girls Football Club and contribute to their success on and off the field.”
