Keeping your home safe and secure

Two 'Keep everyone safe' posters.

Security

You rightly expect your home to be safe and secure.

Some of you have shared concerns with us about security in your block, in particular incidents of people trying to enter who should not be there.

Through complaints, conversations at Neighbourhood Nights and Knocks, or directly with Neighbourhood Officers, you have told us about how these incidents make you feel unsafe.

So, we’re doing something about it, and you and your neighbours have a part to play too, by being vigilant.

What are we doing?

To support the many existing physical security measures in place, and an improved recording system, we have a new communications campaign to share the importance of everyone taking responsibility for good security habits to make the most of physical measures such as entry phones and fobs that we have in place.

It is starting soon. Look out for:

  • A suite of home safety booklets, including information on the dangers of tailgating.
  • Information on our website.
  • A set of posters on noticeboards around your buildings about tailgating, and entry system use.
  • Ongoing communications through our newsletters and social media.

What do I need to do?

If there is an immediate threat dial 999.

If you have a general concern, please report it to our main telephone number 0300 131 7300 from the safety of your own home.

Please try and provide as much information as possible. For example, the time and date, how they gained entry, and to where in the building, if it is one person or more, what they appear to be doing/ attempting to do, a description, any other comments.

We will:

  • Record the details to build up a picture as to whether this is isolated, or a wider problem.
  • Respond to police requests for CCTV footage, if we have any, if they are investigating.
  • Support multi-agency approaches with local police ASB teams to help combat the problem.

And, just so you know, there are strict data protections around our use of CCTV, which is for the deterrent and detection of crime. We cannot routinely check CCTV on request by residents.
