If you've outgrown your home or are looking to downsize (move to a smaller property), we can help.
Swap with other social housing tenants
As well as using national services like HomeSwapper to exchange your home with another social housing tenant (this is called a mutual exchange), we also have our own list of ISHA residents looking to move home.
Transfers are made according to priority need. If your home is overcrowded (too many people and not enough bedrooms) or you are under-occupying (you have spare, unused bedrooms), you will be treated as a priority.
Whether you are transferring to another ISHA property or using HomeSwapper, we can provide support and guidance to help you through the process.
Under-occupation
If your home is no longer suitable for your needs, you could be eligible for financial incentives to downsize to a smaller property. Common examples are changes in your circumstances that mean your home is now too big for you to manage, or perhaps you're an 'empty nester' and your children have left home.
What we'll pay
- We pay £750 for the first bedroom you give up and £500 for any further bedrooms.
- We pay up to £1,200 towards moving costs and any other reasonable costs (such as the disconnection/reconnection of appliances and white goods).
- If you're over 65 or have a long-term disability, we'll also cover moving and packing costs.
