Resident participation on recruitment panels

Recently, two of our involved residents helped on recruitment panels for two different roles.

Why we're involving residents in the recruitment process

Having residents help select staff for jobs is a great way to make sure we’re recruiting people who truly understand and care about residents.

When residents help interview candidates, it brings a warm, real-life perspective. It also demonstrates to those applying to work for us that your voices genuinely matter. Working together like this helps us choose people who are not only skilled, but also approachable, respectful and ready to build strong relationships with the people they serve. It’s a step that leads to better services, stronger trust, and a team that reflects what residents value most.

Being part of the interview panels

Resident Scrutiny Panel member, Michael, helped Compliance Manager Gavin interview candidates for the role of Resident Liaison Manager. This is a role with a special focus on being out and about, working with residents and ensuring issues are acted on.

Gavin said: "It was genuinely a pleasure to be supported by a resident during the interview process for the damp and mould Resident Liaison Officer role. Their insight, honesty, and lived experience brought real value to the discussion and kept the focus exactly where it should be, on doing the right thing for residents."

Another panel member, Joy, interviewed candidates for the Communications Officer job. This role involves not only working on all types of communication with residents, but also communication with other stakeholders, the external media and ISHA staff.

Communications Manager, Jan, said: "I was so pleased that Joy agreed to join us. She brought insight and reassurance that our selection process had the rigour of the resident perspective."
