Safety and Security in Your Home
Here are some ways that you can keep your home safe and secure
Keep your home secure
- Close all windows and lock your doors when you go out
- Report anything suspicious you see to the police or your local Safer Neighbourhood Team
- Never let strangers into your home unless they can prove who they are. Always ask them to show you ID.
Electricity
- Ensure any electrical work is carried out by an NICEIC qualified electrician
- Never buy electrical goods unless you are sure that it has been tested and approved for safety
- Unplug electrical goods when not used, especially your television
Make sure you know how your hot water and heating system work
- Never carry out work on gas boilers, appliances or pipes. This is very dangerous and illegal
- Make a gas safety check as soon as we contact you. It is a legal requirement for us to check your boiler and for you to let us. This does not apply if you own your home.
- If you smell gas you should ring National Grid on 0800 111 999 right away. Then contact our Repairs team on 020 7704 7300
