Get creative in our free art sessions

Our poetry art session on Wednesday, 20 November has been postponed. Join artist, poet, and novelist Seema Gill along with Joy, (Resident Scrutiny Panel member) for three art sessions to explore, create and express yourself. We invite you to have lunch, have fun, and try something new! Art Session “I adore knitting, working with different yarns, colours and textures, and so for me, knitting is my art. I also create paintings of plants from my garden, using watercolours and acrylics and so this is my art too. I am a singer, songwriter and musician, and this is also my art. I find creating art very relaxing; it helps me relieve my stress and allows me to express myself. Sometimes I don't really want to do anything - I just want to relax and watch TV or videos. But most times, I have a piece of knitting, a painting or a song on the go and each time I resume working on these, I rediscover my love and my passion. We'd like to invite you to come and explore making art for yourself. We will provide all the materials for you to create a piece of art which is intrinsically you and that you can take home. You will be given a black board to cover with vibrant colour. We have acrylic paints and stencils to use, beautiful paper to cut out and glue, along with ribbon, buttons and sequins - you can let your imagination fly. Come and join us - come and explore your expression.” Joy, Resident Scrutiny Panel member. RSVP: Email involvement@isha.co.uk to RSVP When: Wednesday 7 November, 12:30 to 2:30pm Where: 102 Blackstock Road, London, N4 2DR Seema kindly wrote a guest article on why art is important to her. You can read that here. Some of the art created by Seema and Joy Poetry session “I assisted Seema Gill in running a series of poetry workshops last year, where we invited residents to come and explore the spoken and written word with us. Some people came and read poems they'd already written, much to the delight of the group; some shared their poem ideas with everyone and took on board valuable feedback which helped them to finish their poems; but most hadn't explored poetry before and the group provided a safe space and encouragement to write poetry for the very first time. Poetry doesn't have to rhyme. Poetry can be a stream of thoughts, a story, words to a song, how you feel, what moves you, or what makes you laugh. Poetry allows you to share expressing yourself in a way that can be appreciated by yourself and others. Come and join us and have fun throwing a few words about. Bring your poems to share with the group; bring your ideas of something you'd like to write a poem about; or come with absolutely no idea of why you're coming, just to see what happens. We warmly look forward to seeing you there.” Joy, Resident Scrutiny Panel member.
