Food for thought

Just before Christmas, we collaborated with the Felix Project and the housing association support charity HACT to distribute free food that might otherwise be wasted.

The lovely people at the ARC Centre in Islington allowed us to use their premises on Monday, 23 December.

At our first free food market, we had lots of fresh produce, including delicious raspberries, bananas, vegetables, and fresh milk. At the end of the market, a community kitchen in Hoxton collected unclaimed food and cooked meals for those in need. It was a learning experience for us, as we aim to provide more practical assistance to residents in all the boroughs where we have homes.

We realise that the need for support isn’t just at Christmas. If you are struggling to make ends meet, please contact our Outreach Team for advice.

Food apps

If you have a smartphone, many apps offer free or reduced-price food.

You could sign up for Olio, and find your local ‘food hero’ who collects and distributes excess food from supermarkets near your home, or Too Good to Go, which offers heavily discounted meals from various local outlets.
