You can attend private viewings and special events at The British Museum as an ISHA resident.

Silk Roads opens on Thursday, 26 September, in Room 30 of The Sainsbury Exhibitions Gallery. A special community evening viewing will be held on Sunday, 22 September, and we've secured tickets for early afternoon entry. If you want to visit the Museum and permanent collections before or after visiting the Silk Roads exhibition, you should book a separate ticket via the British Museum website.

About the exhibition

Rather than a single trade route from East to West, the Silk Roads comprised overlapping networks linking communities across Asia, Africa and Europe, from Japan to Britain, and from Scandinavia to Madagascar. This major exhibition unravels how the journeys of people, objects and ideas that formed the Silk Roads shaped cultures and histories.

This visually stunning show focuses on a defining period in their history, from about AD 500 to 1000. The exhibition offers a unique chance to see objects from the length and breadth of the Silk Roads. From Indian garnets found in Suffolk to Iranian glass unearthed in Japan and objects from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan that have never been seen in the UK.

Crossing deserts, mountains, rivers and seas, the Silk Roads tell a story of connection between cultures and continents centuries before the formation of the globalised world we know today.

Booking and tickets

If you'd like to attend, email AlasdairP@isha.co.uk. Tickets are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and Alasdair will be able to provide full details of what time and where to meet up with him.

Tickets must be pre-booked, and you won't be able to get into the exhibition without a ticket.
